Calm, Warm And Inviting—2024 Home Design Trend We Are Loving

As home experts for both new construction and updating older homes, we study trends and how they will affect the buying and selling of homes.  Every year we research what top designers are telling us, what trends they are seeing and what looks are going out of style.  This year, more than ever before, it has become abundantly clear, home design trends are more of a feeling versus a specific look.  That feeling is creating spaces that are calm, warm and inviting to your family and friends.  So, if you already have achieved these emotions in your spaces no need to read any further.

If your home feels cold, industrial or uninviting, it is time to warm up your home with natural raw wood, textures like brick or saturated paints on your walls.  Adding upholstered furniture with chunky textures and new lighting that adds warmth even when they aren’t lit u

You want to create ambiance with a focus on comfort and serenity—doesn’t that sound so much better than formal, cold grey rooms with, here’s that word again, no feeling?  Earthy tones, softer textures and natural materials all create the inviting spaces that are the perfect backdrop for family time. Specifically shades of warm beige, muted greens (yes!) and soft grays will set the stage for any room.  Promote the emotions of relaxation and enhance the sense of well-being, making your home a refuge from the outside influences of our world these days.

We have been hearing the words organic modern a lot in the design world right now.  Simply put, this is a trend that draws inspiration from nature and emphasizes the use of natural elements and materials in interior and architectural design.  Blurring the lines between indoors and outdoors should be your underlying focus when creating spaces.  For example, if you have a very industrial loft style space, using things like live plants, warm woods and color shades from nature in your upholstery pieces can recreate this space into a place that is warm and inviting.  No need to tear down walls or change the whole room completely.  Just add a few natural elements and the whole feeling of the space changes immensely.

Now let’s get into more specific ways to change your spaces without breaking the bank.  The trend of modern farmhouse hit hard and our homes got a look that became over done really fast.  For example, barn doors became a trend that some may have become tired of really fast.  But barn doors can save space and are appropriate for small spacesaces or as room dividers.  Replacing the concept with glass sliding panels or textured bamboo jipandi style dividers or even just a flat panel natural wood door will update the home while keeping the space saving versatility of the barn door.

Another trend that is fading away is the concept of uber minimalism.  Remember, Instagram photos of neutral, boring spaces are not realistic and the way people actually live in their homes.  Once the photo is taken, people’s things are moved back into the room and then the minimalistic style was just a fleeting moment in time.  There is nothing wrong with doing the minimal style but do it in a more realistic way or in other words, just less stuff in our rooms.  Bring in furniture that doubles as storage hiding the things you don’t want to see every day.  This includes side tables that also are cupboards or ottomans that can hide extra pillows.  Creating closed door storage is key to having a space that is clean and uncluttered to the eye.

All white kitchens (gasp) are one of the trends being ditched in 2024.  Here’s the deal, white kitchens have become predictable, tired and boring but this is a concept that is easily transformed with just a few simple tweaks.  Adding color to the walls, incorporating wood tones such as wood cabinet islands, pops of color with rugs and even displaying items that are rustic modern can change the coldness of an all-white kitchen to a softer palette of textures and colors.  Soft green accents, mixed metals and warm lighting will upgrade your white kitchen to a more inviting space.  Take it slow and just add a few things and we are confident you will love the way it makes you feel.

We love this year’s non-trend of taking your space and making it warm and inviting.  Turning your home into a sanctuary that promotes a feeling of well-being and tranquility make us smile.  Who doesn’t love a home that gives us these feelings we all need and want in our lives.  Enjoy this trend and make it your own!
